Summary
Collectivity is a concept that has received renewed attention within the arts. What does collectivity mean? How can you give shape to that? In what way can collective work produce a cumulative effect? And how can collective methods of research help us imagine the effects of rising sea levels?

Collectivity is a concept that has received renewed attention within the arts. What does collectivity mean? How can you give shape to that? In what way can collective work produce a cumulative effect? And how can collective methods of research help us imagine the effects of rising sea levels?
In September 2023, the master’s programme Creative Producing (AHK) launched ‘Collective Research’ – a four-month programme in which students experiment with possible (alternative) non-hierarchical forms of research in a temporary collective.
Per collective, the outlines of a research-form are being developed on the theme: Climate change – sea level rise. The focus of the research is on the process of collecting and exchanging all kinds of material, knowhow and practice-based data and to make connection between the input of everyone involved. In doing so, each collective find its own form to archive, and communicate the process.
In the process, the students are guided by Elke Uitentuis and Juha van ‘t Zelfde. Both artists, coaches and experts by experience on collective work practices.
The results are shared as part of the Academy of Theatre and Dance’s ‘Research Month’ in February 2023.
